Foteini Anastasiou MD , PhD.
Graduated from the School of Medicine of the University of Crete in 1999. Worked as a full time General Practitioner in the rural Practice of Pyrgos in the Health Centre of Harakas, Crete, Greece from 2005 until 2017. Since 2018 is the co-ordinator of the 4rth TOMY – Municipality and Academic Practice of Heraklion a collaborative practice between the Clinic Of Social and Family Medicine (CSFM) the MInicipality of Heraklion and the 7th YPE Crete (NHS).
Since 2008 when she finalized her thesis on “Functional gastrointestinal disorders in primary care in Crete” she is a scientific collaborator of the CSFM and has taken part in many education ( pre and post graduate) and research activities: including studies on gastroenterology in primary care, translation and validation of research tools and development of practical guidelines for General Practitioners in Greece. Since 2008 has assisted as peer reviewer many international medical journals
She is a founding member of the Cretan Practice Based Research Network (2006) and member of the coordinating committee. From 2008 until 2017 was a member of the scientific committee of the Greek Association of General Practitioners (ELEGEIA ) and has also served as the secretary of the Union of NHS doctors in the prefecture of Heraklion for 2 years (2009- 2011).
She is a member of the European Society for Primary Care Gastroenterology (www.espcg.eu) steering committee since September 2009 and member of the executive board as Communication Officer of the Society since 2014 and as an Education Officer also representing the Society to UEG in Education Committee since 2021.
