Dr. Louis Ferrant (Belgium)

Biography

BELG0001LouisLouis Ferrant ( 21-06-1946) obtained a bachelor degree in Philosophy ( 1969) followed by a degree of Medical doctor (1976) and a bachelor degree in Moral Sciences (1979). He started in 1977 a group practice in a multicultural area in Brussels. He transformed this practice in a community oriented multidisciplinary Medical House ‘Medikuregem’ in 2008.

Since 1987 he is part-time lecturer in the Department of Family Medicine University of Antwerp ( UA) and did  research  on «  Recurrent Peptic Ulcer : not only an infectious disease. He was lecturer in the following subjects: Geriatrics, Tutorship, Migrants and Health.

He is president of the advising committee of the Ministry of Health (Region Brussels Capital) and Belgian member of the steering group of the ESPCG (European Society for Primary Care Gastroenterology.

In 1998 he was the first General Practionner winning the three annual price ‘ Verhulst- Van Eeckhoven’ dedicated to a Belgian medical doctor combining scientific research and social involvment  ( creation of a team of 80 intercultural brokers for medical services )

In 2000  he started  «  The  house for families » a prevention project for children between 0 –8 years and their families. Main purposes : primary prevention through education, alimentation and language.
